Dandruff is the condition of shedding dead skin cells from your scalp. It is irritating and embarrassing and if untreated can cause acne on your face and damage your scalp (due to excessive scratching). Besides anti-dandruff shampoo that provides temporary relief (in comparison), here are some homemade remedies that will help for long term relief.

Garlic ointment
Take four – five cloves of garlic, pound it to a pulp and dilute with ¼ cup of water. Then take the mixture and apply it to your scalp. Wait for twenty minutes and then wash your hair.

Lemon juice
Juice half a lemon and apply the juice to your scalp. Leave it for about five minutes and then wash your hair.

Alternatively, you add the lemon juice in to ¼ cup of plain yogurt, mix and then apply to your scalp. Leave for twenty minutes and then wash your hair.

Aloe Vera
This is a very popular remedy amongst locals. Use the sap found in a Komarika or aloe vera leaf and massage it in onto your scalp before you take a bath.

Salt
Dust some powdered salt over your scalp and massage thoroughly. Wait for a few minutes and then wash your hair.

Coconut oil
There are debates regarding the use of oil to treat dandruff. It has been recommended because one of the reasons dandruff forms is because of the dryness of your scalp. Therefore an oil massage using coconut oil is recommended.
Apply coconut oil thoroughly on your scalp and then wash it off with shampoo and conditioner.
